Scope
The Erik Andersch (Andersch) collection spans the years 1961-2008 and consists of 0.6 cubic meter of records collected by Andersch. The collection covers Nam June Paik’s artistic traces in Europe during the 1960s through the 1990s. The collection consists of Nam June Paik (NJP) related documents, photographs, posters, prints, objects, scrap materials, and postcards. Most items are in German and arranged chronologically.

The collection divided into eight series: Series 1. Correspondence; Series 2. Document; Series 3. Graphic; Series 4. Photograph; Series 5. Poster; Series 6. Print; Series 7. Object; Series 8. Scrap. Series 1. Correspondence includes postcards sending from NJP to Andersch. Series 2. Document consists of legal and financial documents regarding NJP’s housing in Germany and performance related documents in 1980. Series 3. Graphic includes Fluxus graphic materials, postcards without stamping, and <Symphony No. 5> score. Series 4. Photograph composed of snaps and performances of NJP taken by Andersch documents NJP’s art and daily life in the 1980’s. Series 5. Poster includes exhibition posters of NJP. Series 6. Print includes editioned prints signed by NJP. Series 7. Object consists of Fluxus box, <Zen for Film>, and NJP’s plastic TV object. Series 8. Scrap composed of newspaper clippings, exhibition graphics, and correspondence, documents NJP’s artistic traces in Europe during the 1970s through the 1990s. Items are arranged chronologically. Most items are written in German. Title of the book is in italics, title of artwork is in italics in angle brackets, and title of exhibition or performance is in italics in double angle brackets.

Highlights of the collection include photographs and stage settings of <<Begegnung Mit Korea>> performed with Charlotte Moorman in 1980, photographs of <MS Fluxussus Symphony No. 7> performance in 1986, graphics supplemented to Monthly Review of the University Avant-Garde Hinduism in 1963, and scraps on NJP from 1975 to 2006.
Abstract
Born in Dusseldorf, Germany, in 1940, Erik Andersch (Andersch) was a teacher as well as a collector specializing in Fluxus. Influenced by Robert Filliou, Andersch started collecting artworks. While keeping friendship with George Brecht, Takako Saito, André Thomkins, Nam June Paik, and other artists, Andersch expanded his artwork collection. Andersch’s artwork collection holds editioned prints as well as multiples, out-of-print books and catalogues, and graphics.
